Dodge Charger Horsepower

Dodge Charger

When you’re looking at a muscle car, like the Dodge Charger, one thing you’re probably considering is how much horsepower you can get out of its engine. With five engines available, you can choose the power that works for you.

Our team at Rockwall Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram will go over each of these engine options and their horsepower, so you can learn which Dodge Charger engine is right for Rockwall, Terrell, Rowlett, and Wylie, TX, drivers.

Five Impressive Engines

Impressive EnginesAs we mentioned above, there are five powerful engine options to choose from under the Charger’s hood.

The standard engine in the Charger is the 3.6L Pentastar® V6 engine that puts out 292 horsepower in most trims. The SXT AWD and GT models achieve 300 horsepower with this engine.

The next step up in terms of power is the available 5.7L HEMI® V8 engine. This engine offers a ton of horsepower and fuel efficiency, hitting 370 horsepower and up to 25 highway MPG.  It is the standard engine for the Charger R/T trim.

The 392 HEMI® V8 engine puts out 485 horsepower and nearly an equal amount of torque, coming in at 475 lb-ft of torque. You can go from 0 to 60 MPH in about four seconds. With a jump of more than 100 horsepower, this engine is standard on the Charger Scat Pack.

The next available engine shows another massive jump in power for both horsepower and torque. The available supercharged 6.2L HEMI® SRT Hellcat V8 engine produces a whopping 717 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque.

The most powerful engine for the Charger is the 6.2L HEMI® High-Output Hellcat Redeye V8 engine, which provides an incredible 797 horsepower and 707 lb-ft of torque.

Performance and Drivetrain

Performance and DrivetrainWorking with several of these engines is the standard TorqueFlite® 8-speed automatic transmission. This transmission offers incredible precision and fuel efficiency. You can even add available steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. The other option is an available 8-speed 8HP70 automatic transmission.

You have the option of choosing standard rear-wheel drive or available on-demand all-wheel drive and front axle disconnect, depending on the trim, which gives your vehicle better traction in poor weather.

Drivers of the Charger also have the option of adding the available SRT® Drive Modes to customize your driving experience. Choose between Valet, Eco, Track, Sport, Auto, or Custom mode.

Performance Tech

Performance TechTo help get the most out of your Charger, there are several different performance tech features.

One such feature to keep your engine cool is the SRT® Power Chiller. This system diverts air-conditioning refrigerant to a chiller unit to keep your car’s engine cool. You also can opt for the Race Cooldown feature, which helps cool things down once the engine has been shut off.

To help you get started, you also can enjoy Launch Control with Launch Assist. Set the RPM when you want to leap into first gear.
