The Jeep Wrangler is legendary for its off-road capability. In this Jeep Wrangler specs review, we’re going to go over some of the details that prove the 2020 model provides even better performance than before.
Our team at Rockwall CDJR is going over everything from powertrain specs to dimensions. Read on to find out what makes the Wrangler a great choice for drivers in Rockwall, Terrell, Rowlett, and Wylie!
The 2020 Jeep Wrangler offers three engine options to choose from starting with a standard 3.6L Pentastar® V6 engine with or without eTorque technology. This engine:
Each 2020 Wrangler also has the option to upgrade to a 2.0L direct-injection turbo engine. This motor generates 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque.
That extra torque at a low range helps get you moving from a standstill, whether you want more acceleration when the light turns green or you’re towing something heavy. Like the 3.6L Pentastar®, this engine can also tow up to 3,500 pounds when properly equipped.
The 2.0L turbo I-4 also offers better fuel economy, thanks in part to its direct injection system. It gets an EPA-estimated 23 MPG city/25 MPG highway on 2-door models.
One more engine that this model has to offer is an available 260-horsepower 3.0L EcoDiesel with a whopping 442 lb-ft of torque. Not only does this engine offer a bit more pep in your step, but it also drastically enhances fuel economy to an EPA-estimated 22 city / 29 highway MPG.
Regardless of which engine you choose, you can get the Wrangler with a smooth-shifting 8-speed automatic transmission. The 3.6L Pentastar® also offers a 6-speed manual transmission. The Wrangler is one of only a few midsize SUVs that offers a manual transmission.
Each Jeep Wrangler comes with 4×4 capability, but you get to choose the system it uses to send power to the wheels.
The Command-Trac® Part-Time 4WD system comes standard on Sport and Sahara models. It uses a shift-on-the-fly system that allows you to manually switch to 4WD when driving at low speeds. Plus, a 2.72:1 low-range gear ratio makes crawling easy, so you can easily maneuver across rocks.
A Selec-Trac® Full-Time 4WD system is optional on Sahara models. This has the same low-range gear ratio as the Command-Trac®, but does the work for you: It automatically switches between 2WD and 4WD in response to changing road conditions.
Finally, the legendary Rock-Trac® Part-Time 4WD system comes standard on Rubicon. This provides even more off-road capability with a 4:1 low-gear ratio. Plus, an off-road transfer case protects the system, even over rough terrain.
The off-road performance of the Wrangler is further aided by an impressive approach, breakover, and departure angles. The 2-door Rubicon, for example, offers the following clearances:
Inside, you’ll find 31.7 cubic feet of cargo volume behind the rear seats. With the rear seats folded, that area increases to 72.4 cubic feet.
Meanwhile, 103.7 cubic feet of total passenger volume is more than enough to keep everyone comfortable. Two-door Wrangler models seat four, while 4-door models can seat five. See how much wiggle room you’ll have in either body style below:
