Both vehicles have a reputation for delivering powerful performance features. So, to get started, we’ll head under the hood.

With the 2022 Jeep Wrangler, you’ll have the ability to choose from four engine options:

• 6L Pentastar® V6 engine with eTorque: 285 horsepower & 260 lb-ft of torque
• 6L Pentastar® V6 engine with ESS (Engine Stop/Start technology): 285 horsepower & 260 lb-ft of torque
• 0L Turbo I-4 engine with ESS: 270 horsepower & 295 lb-ft of torque
• 0L EcoDiesel V6 engine: 260 horsepower & 442 lb-ft of torque

Under the hood of the 4Runner, you’re only going to get one engine option, the 4.0L V6, which only puts out 270 horsepower and 278 lb-ft of torque.

MPG Ratings, Fuel Efficiency, and EV Powertrain

Despite all that power, the Wrangler still manages to deliver excellent fuel efficiency ratings. You’ll get up to an EPA-estimated 22 city and 29 highway MPG when equipped with the available 3.0L EcoDiesel V6 engine.

The 4Runner, on the other hand, once again falls short, delivering just an EPA-estimated 16 city and 19 highway MPG. This means you’ll have to stop and get gas more often in the 4Runner than you would in the Wrangler.

Perhaps the widest divide in efficiency comes from the Wrangler 4xe, a plug-in hybrid version. If you choose the plug-in hybrid Wrangler, a powertrain you won’t find in the 4Runner, you’ll enjoy an EPA-estimated 49 miles of all-electric range!

Exterior Design

Now, we’ll move on to the exterior design features that set these two SUVs apart. The 2022 Wrangler provides you with the ability to customize your exterior.

You’ll have the ability to choose between seven soft and hardtop roof options, including:

• Sky One-Touch® power top
• Sunrider® for hardtop
• Zipperless Sunrider® soft top
• Premium black Sunrider® soft top
• Premium tan Sunrider® soft top

The available Sky One-Touch® power top allows you to easily fold back your roof with the touch of a button.

Be sure to ask us about the standard removable doors and fold-down windshield. The hardtop can also be removed in three pieces and stored in your trunk.

With the 2022 4Runner, you do not have the ability to remove the roof or doors. You’ll only get the standard power rear glass, which lowers the glass of the rear window. You also won’t be able to remove the doors of the 4Runner with ease, something the Wrangler allows for.
